13 startups that shot to fame in 2017

The start-up scene in India was dubbed as one that solves unsolved problems for the people at the Nasscom Product conclave. The startup sector growth was slow in 2017, yet there were companies that charted their path smoothly. We provide a roundup of the startups that were successful and famous in 2017.

 

  1. Quantta: A data analytics startup by Ritesh, Malvika and Vinay Bawri is a one of its kind with the largest consumer file in Asia built into the platform. It has come to garner its fame from this bold promise that 80% of urban India’s data is built into its system in real-time. That is data for almost 350 million consumers.  With data analytics becoming big in 2017 and showing growth trends over the coming years, Quantta would be a company to watch out for.
  2. TerraBlue XT: A medical startup by Rajlakshmi Borthakur is a breakthrough that caught the fancy of Ivanka Trump, the advisor to the US President at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in 2017. Terrablue has designed medical gloves based on AI which can determine any physical condition that you may have and is truly a breakthrough innovation.
  3. Get My Parking: A startup that helps you get parking space and free your mind of this unnecessary hassle when you go out. Started by Rasik Pansare, Chirag Gupta and Rahul Gupta, this Delhi startup has digitised more than 300 parking lots with more than 800 devices averaging 65000 transactions a day. Launched in 2015, the startup saw a lot of growth in 2017 and is dubbed as “magic” for the parking industry in Delhi and is seen as a disruption in this space.
  4. Wifi Dabba: Launched by Shubhendu Sharma and Karam Lakshman, Wifi Dabba is a data startup which believes that despite the launch of Jio the data cost in India is still very high, making room for price wars. Providing 100 MB data at Rs. 2, 500 MB at Rs. 10 and 1 GB at Rs. 20, this startup is surely beating Reliance Jio at its own game.
  5. GRoboMac: Green Robot Machinery Private Limited, an FAAS startup by Manohar Sambandam and Neeraj Bhardwaj, is providing a robotic solution to cotton picking during harvest season. With labour shortage being an acute problem during the season which also led to employment of child labour, this solution is helping farmers sort out their problem in a way more efficient than manual picking. Many companies are following in the footsteps and investing in farming as a service (FAAS).
  6. Liv.ai: Started by Subodh Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar and Kishore Mundra, Liv.ai is an artificial intelligence and speech recognition startup. What brought it to notice is the fact that apart from English, the speech recognition software here can understand and translate nine other regional languages. This feat has not been achieved even by tech majors like Google.
  7. Hackerhive: Technology and big data are breaking new frontiers for businesses but are also putting sensitive user data at risk. This became an issue when Uber and Zomato’s data was breached in 2017. Anand Prakash and Rohit Raj bring the cyber security hacks deployed by giants such as Google, Facebook etc. to locate bugs in programs before they can cause any harm.
  8. SwiftChill: Comfort Products Pvt. Ltd. is a startup by Ashwin Shetty and Ashok Shetty. The product is the counterpart of microwave ovens for hot foods. With SwiftChill one now has the option to cool their beverages instantly without needing any ice.
  9. Altifarm: Talk about innovation that soothes. This modular self-watering farm which you can place in your living room is the brainchild of Arun Raj. Now you can grow your very own, pesticide free vegetables at home. The concept gained momentum in 2017 and is one that is likely to catch on with the imagination of several urban households.
  10. HUG Innovations: Founded by Raj Neravati, this Hyderabad based startup is joining leagues with Apple and Xiaomi with its gesture control technology enabled wearable tech products. Developed by their team, this technology provides a no touch access and control to apps, electronics, VR headsets etc.
  11. Avanijal Agri Automation Pvt. Ltd.: Channabasappa Kolar and Vijayeendra HS have found a smart solution to the irrigation problem of India. They have developed a low cost automated system called Nikash which uses wireless technology and IoT to control irrigation motors and valves.
  12. Gayam Motor Works: Jumping the race track and charging ahead in bringing the electric car to India is this Hyderabad based startup which has beat giants like Maruti, Honda and Ford who wish to launch their electric cars in India by 2020. Though its product is a Li-Ion battery based three-wheeler, its achievement with the amount of resources it had is remarkable.
  13. Zuper: This enterprise mobility startup by Raghav Gurumani, Karthik Rao, Vijay Narsimhan, and Anand Balaji has many takers from Ikea to MG Motors. This startup wants to tackle the most important link in the enterprise chain – customer care. Organizations using Zuper have increased employee utilization by 50%. The year old startup is catching the fancy of several enterprise giants.
