Roshni Nadar Malhotra
Ranked 51st on the Forbes’ list of most powerful women in the world, Roshni is the Executive Director and CEO of HCL enterprise and takes all major strategic decisions of the USD 9 billion corporate giant. She was also titled as the Philanthropist of the Year, 2017, by Vogue.
Avani Chaturvedi
Avani Chaturvedi, along with Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Seth, became one of the first women fighter pilots of India in 2016. The women made their mark in the field dominated by men all this while. Chaturvedi became the first Indian female pilot to take a solo flight in a Mig-21 in 2018 and was promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the same year.
Indu Malhotra
Ms Malhotra is one of the three women judges in the apex Supreme Court of India and the first since independence. In April 2018, she became the first senior woman advocate to be directly appointed as a Supreme Court judge. Ms Malhotra was part of the Supreme Court bench which decriminalized homosexuality between consenting adults in a landmark ruling.
Nirmala Sitharaman
From charting the course for India-USA military exercise to being the guiding hand for the recent non-military action of the Indian armed forces in Balakot, the second woman Defense Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman, is a force to reckon with.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw
Ranked 60th on the Forbes’ list of most powerful women in the world, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the richest self-made woman billionaire of India. She is currently serving as the Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon Limited (one of the largest biotechnology/biopharmaceutical companies in India) and the Chairperson of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
Rahibai Soma Popere
Rahibai is a self-made expert in agro-biodiversity and paddy cultivation. Hailing from Kombhalne village of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra, Rahibai was given a place in BBC’s list of Most Influential and Inspiring Women of 2018.
Mithali Raj
The captain of Indian Cricket’s female squad, Mithali is the pillar of the team with maximum T20I and WODI runs in her basket. She is also the only batswoman to cross the 6000 runs mark in the WODIs. Often considered as one of the greatest batswomen ever, Raj is the only cricketer (male or female) to have captained the Indian squad in more than one ICC World Cup finals, doing so twice in 2005 and 2017.
Mary Kom
Magnificent Mary became the first Indian woman boxer to win a Gold Medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and holds the world record of winning the AIBA World Amateur Boxing Championship six times. She is also the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the seven world championships.
Shobhana Bhartia
Ranked 88th on the Forbes’ list of most powerful women in the world, Bhartia is the Chairperson and Editorial Director of HT Media. She is also serving as the Chairperson of Endeavor India and has recently taken charge of the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences, Pilani.
Gita Gopinath
Ms Gopinath became the second Indian and the only woman to be appointed as the Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in October 2018. She is currently the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University and is also the co-director of the International Finance and Macroeconomics program at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
