  • After gaining independence from the British rule in August 1947, the government of India established a fully-fledged Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, a leading agency for disseminating information to people at large on assorted welfare programs undertaken by the government.
  • Successive governments have been reviewed for using the state machinery for propagating the achievements of the party in power. In times of crisis, the governments on both at state as well as central levels have used the PR machinery to reclaim their reputation.
